One Man and Five Women

An exhibition at Penzance Arts Club

Featured six local artists who work in a variety of mediums. This exhibition ran in July 2006 at Penzance Arts Club.
This beautiful and historic building, formerly the Portuguese Consulate, is located at the bottom end of Chapel Street opposite St. Mary's Church and has views over the harbour and Mounts Bay to St. Michaels Mount.
Mariarosa Martin

Mariarosa Martin, born in Austria, studied silk painting, embroidery and design at her local college while serving a 3 year apprenticeship with the highly respected design house of Falkensammer. Establishing herself in Penzance in 1985 she quickly gained a reputation with celebrities and royalty for her unique hand painted silk clothes. Now concentrating on her first love for embroidery she designs and creates traditional three-dimensional works of art.
Marrie Goode

Marrie Goode is an exciting young designer who creates beautiful and complex jewellery using the Kumihimo style of Japanese Braiding and bead weaving. Marrie also works in gold and silver, she now concentrates on teaching classes at her bead shop in Queen Street, Penzance.
Freda Barrington

Freda Barrington, born in Macedonia, was inspired and taught by her grandmother who was a writer and textile artist. Freda specialises in painting in mixed media and her inspiration comes from nature as well as her interpretations of her inner feelings. She studied Textile and Design in Macedonia and at Toronto College and as well as showing locally has exhibited in Canada, New York and Paris.
Alison Davies

The works of Plymouth born Alison Davies are vibrant and exciting abstracts using a wide range of textile techniques on painted backgrounds. Alison studied Textile Design at Cornwall College and Cardiff College of Art and now works in Penzance designing and painting canvas for rug and tapestry commissions.
Sheila Brough

Sheila Brough is a Fine Arts Graduate from Goldsmiths College School of Art. Sheila is well known for her mixed media textiles inspiring many local people with her work. She has exhibited at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Cornwall Crafts Association, Newlyn Gallery, Blackheath Gallery as well as Penzance Arts Club.
Terry Davies

Terry Davies, originally from Bridgend in South Wales, studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Cardiff College of Art. He has worked as a photographer/graphic designer for the last twenty years and now lives in Penzance concentrating on his sea and landscapes mainly in oils with added interest. Currently has exhibitions in Wales and in Cornwall.


Chapel Street is Penzances' premier street for shopping, dining and entertainment.
